We are developing an event for our members with Savills to give prominence to the important but often overlooked workers in UK real estate and its associated sectors – the people who keep the buildings we all use for work and leisure safe, secure, clean and maintained.

The topic is timely for us having recently released our guidance on encouraging and promoting EDI in our business relationships, including our supply chains. Hidden workers are frequently not directly employed by the organisations who own the sites where they work, and it can often be all too easy for companies to outsource the care and responsibility when they outsource the work.

Mark Tyson, Head of Asset Services, Real Estate, at Legal & General Investment Management Real Assets, will discuss the firm’s campaign to require its suppliers to provide sick pay without waiting days at the same level as standard pay, access to virtual healthcare services and death in service benefits as standard.

Katrina Mackay, UK Board Director of Property Management at Savills, will talk about her company’s efforts to tackle health and wellbeing inequities in the people who work across its portfolio, including by backing the Safe Sick Pay Campaign, and how these efforts are linked to the organisation’s commitments on social mobility.

We will let you all know about more speakers as we add them to the line-up via our On Balance newsletter and social media, but you can expect to hear from people in our industry taking steps as owners, agents and developers to prioritise responsible supply chain management and insisting upon people-centred practices and processes at their service providers.
