An Audience with Lesley Knox

On Tuesday 5th June, Real Estate Balance (REB) members had the pleasure of an evening in the company of one of the property industry’s most distinguished leaders, Lesley Knox.

Lesley has had a career spanning over 30 years and is currently chair of The Grosvenor Estate's Group Board, V&A Dundee and a director of Legal & General Group – among many other roles.

The Grosvenor Estate generously hosted the evening, which began with an introduction to REB, including a snapshot of future events, by Developing Talent Committee Chair and REB co-founder Karen Friebe.

We then moved on to the "Audience with" Lesley, with Anna Bond, recently appointed Portfolio Director of Grosvenor's London Estate, in the role of interviewer. The discussion offered insights into Lesley's highly successful career, highlighting how Lesley succeeded in male-dominated professions from law to finance to real estate.

Offering encouraging advice to our audience, Lesley spoke about the helpful ways in which everyone can support gender- balanced work environments. “We’re at an interesting moment. The question is, how do we keep pushing for change.”

Responding to a question from the floor regarding gender pay gap reporting Lesley commented; “Gender pay reporting is helpful. It’s a way to force companies to think about pay. The CEO pay ratio is also important, however uncomfortable.”

Lesley also touched on the importance of having a good support network “My advice for when you find yourself in a challenging professional situation is that you need to confide in people you are close to and can trust.”

The closing message was delivered by Suzanne Avery, Real Estate Balance co-founder and REB Management Committee member ; “ We believe that real change in the real estate sector will come about by men and women working together to ensure that women are equally represented at senior levels within their organisations".

Our “Audience with ….”  events are a highlight of REB's events programme. These entertaining and informative interviews shine a spotlight on distinguished role models, their career paths and how they 'made it' in male dominated environments.
