As part of the programme of events organised by Real Estate Balance, City law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner hosted “An Audience with Liz Peace CBE ” on Thursday 28 September 2017.

The session was attended by over 100 women and men working in different organisations and disciplines within the real estate sector.

Following a welcome to Adelaide House by BLP partner Karen Friebe, there was an overview of Real Estate Balance – its objectives, recent achievements and projected events – from the Chair, Vivienne King.

The highlight of the morning was the insightful audience with Liz Peace CBE, whose current roles include being Chair of Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation.

The audience was conducted by Fiona Mannion, Head of Media at the Crown Estate, who drew some thought-provoking questions from the audience as well as fascinating insights from Liz into her life and career. Topics covered in the session included:

• The need for diversity, as an integral part of the culture of an organisation, to be championed from the top (at CEO level);

• Equal importance being given to alignment of middle-management to an organisation’s commitment to diversity;

• The need for women to try and take control of their own destinies in the workplace;

• A discussion on the public perception of the real estate industry, especially in the light of the Grenfell disaster.

The next Real Estate Balance “Audience with” session is scheduled for 27 February 2018 when Colette O’Shea of Landsec will be in the hot seat.

On 5 December 2017, Landsec will also host Real Estate Balance’s third “Speed Mentoring” event, which will this time focus on “Returners to Work”.
