Carolyn Milligan talks about her appointment as co-chair of NextGen Committee

I am delighted to have been appointed as co-chair of the Real Estate Balance NextGen Committee, a diverse committee formed of REB members with the goal of representing the next generation of real estate employees on the road to equality. Many thanks to Charlotte Dawidek, my predecessor, for her outstanding work as co-chair over the last year, including the insightful NextGen survey.

My own background is as a real estate lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills for over a decade and committee member of HSF's Women's Lawyers Network, aimed at providing networking opportunities as well as supporting the careers and professional development of female lawyers within my firm. Over the past year we have organised a diverse range of initiatives and events from HERd Circles (which bring groups of women from across the firm to share, support and encourage each other) to talks with inspirational female role models such as our recent event with two astronomers from the Greenwich Royal Observatory.

I look forward to working with my co-chair, Amelia Ryan, and the rest of the NextGen Committee, to help create a more diverse and inclusive culture within real estate, at all levels of our industry, as well as delivering an interesting programme of events based on the findings of NextGen's 2020 survey results. NextGen's event calendar will include a range of topics from barriers to entry to the profession to creating a more inclusive working environment plus the popular REB speed mentoring events.
