Online Speed Mentoring

Real Estate Balance and Property Week hosted an online speed mentoring event for members on 28 May 2020.

Real Estate Balance and Property Week's online speed mentoring event took place on Zoom on Thursday 28 May 2020. The event was designed to offer real estate professionals from our corporate membership at an earlier stage in their career the opportunity to meet a senior industry leader for a conversation around their career aspirations and development, passing on on valuable skills, knowledge and insights.

All participants joined a webinar at the beginning of the event to be welcomed by Real Estate Balance MD, Sue Brown, and Property Week Editor, Liz Hamson. Participants then went off to their mentoring sessions which ran simultaneously, each with one mentor and three or four mentees.

We were delighted the following were out mentors for the event:

Amanda Clack, Head of Strategic Advisory, CBRE Ltd
Ayesha Ofori, Founder & CEO of PropElle Network
Brian Bickell, CEO, Shaftesbury
Ciaran Bird, CEO UK & Ireland, CBRE Ltd
David Sleath, Chief Executive, SEGRO
Fran Giltinan, Customer Experience Senior Director, Foxtons
Jess Tomlinson, Head of Real Estate London, Barclays Corporate Banking
Liz Peace, Chair, Real Estate Balance
Michela Hancock, Managing Director, Greystar
Steven Skinner, UK CEO, HB Reavis
Victoria Quinlan, Managing Director - Investment Management, Lendlease

After half an hour, all the groups rejoined the webinar where they had an opportunity to hear from some of the mentors and the mentees about their experience.

The event proved to be highly rewarding for both mentees and mentors.

"The opportunity to talk confidentially about career goals and concerns with a real estate industry leader was invaluable." Mentee.

"I really welcomed the opportunity to provide any help, advice, insight etc., and would definitely be keen to do it again." Mentor.

At a time when a significant percentage of the industry is on furlough – an issue particularly affecting more junior team members – it was a positive opportunity to support the property industry’s talent pipeline.
