Real Estate Balance Industry Wide Survey

Please take this opportunity to play your part in the campaign to address the gender imbalance in property by contributing to our industry wide survey.

This is third Real Estate Balance survey. The data we gather this year will enable us to build an up-to-date picture of where the sector currently stands on gender balance, and, added to the evidence base we have been building since 2016 when we commissioned our first survey, to develop a clear sense of the direction of travel.

2020 has seen the pandemic place enormous pressure on businesses in every sector. We’re now beginning to understand that, for a multitude of reasons, women in the workforce have been disproportionately impacted by the knock-on effects of COVID-19, and that gender equality is likely to have taken a hit.

In that context, your input to this survey is more vital than ever, to help us understand where the property sector has made progress, and to identify the most effective ways to move forward.

We are gathering data via two surveys, both of which must be completed by 8 October 2020.

The first survey is for a senior leader within an organisation to complete. The second is for men and women at all levels of the company / real estate division to complete, please share it widely and encourage as many people as possible to respond. Each survey will take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete.

1. The Company survey. This should be completed by a senior leader within the organisation. It is about the company or the real estate division within the company. Responses should be UK-specific and relate to UK employees (one response per organisation). Click the following link to access the survey: Company survey

2. The Employee survey. This one should be shared across the organisation or the real estate division of the organisation. Respondents should be UK based. Click the following link to access the survey: Employee survey

All information gathered will remain strictly anonymous and will not be attributed to any individual or company. The anonymous data is being collected and analysed for us by Grosvenor and we are very grateful for their support.

Why the Real Estate Balance survey matters

Our original vision was to see women represent 33% of senior leadership positions in real estate by 2020, and ultimately achieve representation of 50%.

Gathering accurate data on where the property sector currently sits is vital to enable us to assess progress relative to that objective. Our research also helps the sector share and develop best practice around diversity and inclusion and identify the barriers to equal representation.

The information you provide will ensure we can publish data that will be valuable to the whole sector, not least as a benchmarking tool against which you can measure your own organisation’s progress.
