Speed Mentoring

Real Estate Balance held the latest event in the Speed Mentoring series on 30 April 2019 at Avison Young.

Well organised and fantastic event. I got a real insight into the challenges and opportunities facing some of the women in our industry.” Mentor, April 2019

The latest in our popular Speed Mentoring series was held in the early evening on 30 April. Following the event, both mentors and mentees spoke of the valuable insights they gained through their interactions with people at different stages in their career and across different sectors.

I thought the event was great - really approachable, useful and enjoyable. The discussions revolved around gender balance at my company, my goals and aspirations, as well as understanding the mentors' personal experiences and career highlights.” Mentee, April 2019

Mentors also described how important it is for those established in their career to understand the challenges faced by those just starting out in theirs.

Really useful to gain an insight of what challenges are on mentees’ minds in order to better understand how we can really deliver what is wanted and needed.” Mentor, April 2019

Speed mentoring is a series of short, focused confidential conversations between mentees from our members’ talent pipeline and senior female and male mentors from across the real estate industry. Nominated mentors are matched with mentees from different organisations and provided with each other’s short bios beforehand to enable everyone to prepare for their conversations.

Event attendees highlighted the unique opportunity this gives to get a range of thoughts, ideas and views.

With each mentor I was able to discuss a different element of my career and aspirations. From each one I gained something valuable and have already started following up on their advice.” Mentee, April 2019

Have been mentoring for years but just in the architectural industry so it was very interesting to interact with mentees and mentors from different sectors.” Mentor, April 2019

The mentors were extremely knowledgeable and experienced and gave different viewpoints and insights.” Mentee, April 2019

Mentors and mentees then had the opportunity to talk further over networking drinks. We would like to thank Avison Young for the generous hosting of the event.
