On the evening of Monday 12 June, Real Estate Balance (REB) held its second Speed Mentoring evening. 30 mentees and 30 mentors – men and women - from member organisations including The Grosvenor Estate, Land Sec, Prologis and Berwin Leighton Paisner participated in lively one-on–one career advice sessions..

The evening was hosted by PwC at their Embankment Place office. Two members of REB’s Talent and Development Committee set the scene for the evening – the Chair, Karen Friebe, (BLP Partner) and Saira Choudhry (PwC). Closing remarks were provided by Vivienne King, REB’s Chair.

REB wants to see a better gender balance at senior levels in the property industry and part of our commitment is to provide mentoring and development opportunities for young professionals from all industry disciplines. The Speed Mentoring evening on 12 June was one of a range of such opportunities offered by REB.

Vivienne King, Chair of Real Estate Balance commented:
“The Real Estate Balance speed mentoring events are aimed at giving talented young people the opportunity for face time with some senior figures in our industry, to share doubts and ambitions learn from others mistakes and successes and build confidence. The learning and the rewards however, run both ways and the returns the mentors gain from it are equally valued. It's an intense and stimulating evening and I look forward to the next one.”

Here are some other comments from those who attended as mentors and mentees:

“It’s inspiring to see how many men and women are actively working together to encourage women to enter the commercial property industry.”

“The speed mentoring event was great. Each of the mentors that I was matched with were from very different career backgrounds which I found beneficial. It was really interesting to hear their different perspectives and I received great and differing advice from each of them.”

Bridget Wilkins, CBRE (Mentee)
“It was a great night and I think we all got a lot out of it. Already looking forward to the next one!”
