Real Estate Balance launches gender diversity toolkit for the real estate sector

Over 130 people gathered at the offices of Hogan Lovells on 3rd October to see the launch of the highly anticipated Real Estate Balance Toolkit.

Jackie Newstead, Global Head of Real Estate at Hogan Lovells, opened the event and welcomed guests. Suzanne Avery, Chair of Real Estate Balance Leadership Engagement Committee, then gave an overview of the Toolkit and introduced seven short films which case study the three main themes: Leadership, Opportunity & Culture. The individuals featured in three of the films joined the stage for a panel discussion with Suzanne.

Simon Pursey from Segro talked about how businesses can support employees through maternity and paternity leave - “We need to be creative and flexible, remove the stigma around flexi working...implementing these changes leads to improved trust, promotes honesty & retains talent”.

Michela Hancock from Greystar Europe Holdings Limited left the audience with some inspiring final words of advice when she talked about the importance of women encouraging each other and supporting each other as a group.

Panel Q&A from the audience was then followed by a live online demonstration by Toolkit creator Kaushik Shah, KM Shah, and Gavin Tuck, Managing Director of Small Back Room.

Chief Executive of Landsec and President of BPF, Robert Noel’s powerful last words closed the proceedings: “This Toolkit will help you on the same journey I’m going on. It’s your responsibility to drive change, and you will need help. Failure will mean your business is not sustainable.” he said. Guests then moved downstairs for a champagne reception and an opportunity to try out the Toolkit for themselves.
